Written into Law
Every scene in this edition had a law in the room. Drinking ages raised in Massachusetts and New York, a teen-dance ordinance in Seattle, a 3 a.m. closing that Orlando's council set in motion on a 4–3 vote; abroad, a radio quota in Lusaka, a broadcasting act in London, a military decree in Brazil that closed the Congress. Few of these laws were written about music, and the music answered every one. It's an election month: start in Boston, where a statute moved the door.

On 16 April 1979 Massachusetts raised its drinking age to twenty. Twenty-eight months later the shows were in rooms with no liquor licence, and the records came after.
